System Integrator: Broadcast Solutions Hungary
In Nairobi, we were presented with another project where space was a major constraint. This time, the challenge was even greater: the same control room had to function both as a Master Control Room (MCR) and as a Production Control Room (PCR). Meeting all the requirements within such a limited footprint demanded a carefully thought-out design and efficient use of every square meter.
To address this, we developed a three-row desk system complemented by narrower side desks positioned along the wall. The goal was to integrate all the required control panels while still leaving enough room for operators to work comfortably and without obstruction. After extensive planning, the final layout consisted of a full wall-to-wall front row and two shorter middle and back rows. In this configuration, the back row served as the Master Control Room desk, the middle row was dedicated to Audio, and the front row was reserved for the Video section. This arrangement not only optimized the available space but also ensured a clear division of functions inside a single room.
Designing furniture for a control room goes far beyond aesthetics. Desks must satisfy strict technical requirements such as easy access to equipment, cables, and the monitor wall, as well as the ability to adapt to future needs. For this project, we engineered a wall-to-wall desk system that could be opened directly at the wall, giving engineers convenient access both to the monitor wall and to the rear of the desks. This feature made servicing and reconfiguration significantly easier while keeping the setup clean and efficient.
In addition, to maximize usability and flexibility, we incorporated movable tabletop racks. These can be shifted by operators to find the most suitable position for their workflow. This adaptability is essential in an environment where operational needs often change from production to production.
By carefully balancing ergonomics, functionality, and technical requirements, we were able to deliver a compact yet highly efficient control room solution in Nairobi—one that seamlessly combines the roles of MCR and PCR within a single workspace.
